Quality control of the silica support
YMC supports with particle sizes between 3
and 5 are usually used for analytical columns unless one is working at very small scale. Such small particle sizes are not sold by YMC America. YMC America sells chromatography media for prep HPLC and SFC in particle sizes 10 and above. The rigorous quality control procedure set by YMC starts on the YMC*Gel. In addition to measurement of actual particle size, the support is tested against demanding specifications which include measurement of particle size distribution, pore size, surface area, pore volume, etc. Only when the bulk support satisfies YMC's strict specifications for each of the criteria will the lot of materials be allowed to proceed to bonding.
Quality control of the bonded media
YMC's rigorous quality control is reflected in the reproducible separations obtained by the chromatographer. Each bonded lot is evaluated for reproducibility to ensure that demanding separations, day after day, year after year, are achieved. Only materials meeting the exacting standards are assigned a YMC*Gel bonding lot number by YMC.
