Building the Future of Pharmaceutical and Bioprocessing in the U.S.
Welcome to the Inaugural YMC America Blog
Growth has a rhythm. Sometimes the pace is steady and methodical; other times, it’s marked by bold decisions that reshape what’s possible. At YMC America, it’s both.
As global demand for innovation in pharmaceutical and bioprocess manufacturing continues to rise, YMC America is expanding – not just in size, but in capability, vision, and impact. This blog is a place to share what that growth looks like from the inside: the science behind the solutions, the technologies shaping the future of purification and chromatography, and the people driving meaningful progress across the industry.
As we continue to invest in U.S. operations and look ahead to what’s next in bioprocessing, we invite you to follow along.
Building the Future of Pharmaceutical and Bioprocessing in the U.S.
A Conversation with YMC America President & CEO, Mark Dyment
When Mark Dyment talks about YMC America’s next chapter, it’s clear that this moment has been a long time in the making.
YMC America is in the midst of a strategic expansion that builds on decades of chromatography expertise while looking firmly toward the future. Innovation, U.S.-based manufacturing, and a long-term commitment to its customers, are at the center of that vision, and a large part of what drives its people.
2026 begins with the launch of a new line of Dynamic Axial Compression (DAC) columns. For Mark, this isn’t just a product announcement. It’s symbolic of the future of YMC America.
“We will be the only U.S. supplier of these DAC columns, which I think gives us, and our customers a major competitive advantage. Being able to have a U.S. solution goes a long way in meeting the requirements of our customer base.”
This milestone brings American-based quality, faster access, and enhanced service to customers. It’s also a response to a broader industry shift toward onshoring – meeting biotech and pharmaceutical needs closer to home.
From Vision to Execution
Mark’s connection to YMC runs deep, shaped by entrepreneurship, trust, and a willingness to think long-term.
“In 2018, I left YMC after handing a business plan to YMC Founder and CEO, Mr. Yamamura. About six months later, I got a call asking if I’d come to Japan to talk to him and return to take over as CEO. That was probably my proudest moment: the ability to come back and really make a difference.”
Since then, that difference has been driven by clarity of vision – and the discipline to execute it.
“We’ve put together a long-range plan. Initially, it was a three-year plan, and now we’re putting together a ten-year growth plan. The ability to put together that vision and then execute that vision has been a moment that, from a career perspective, you don’t get very often.”
At its core, YMC America’s mission is to bring the full strength of a global organization to the U.S. market.
“We’ve always wanted to be a full solution provider. Bringing our capital equipment manufacturing capabilities together with the YMC analytical and prep columns, bulk media, and the introduction of lab services has really given us those capabilities.”
Technology That Enables What’s Next
The new DAC columns are one example of how YMC America is helping customers push bioprocessing forward. But the company’s role goes deeper, particularly in continuous chromatography.
“Continuous chromatography is really taking off right now as a technology that’s supporting customer advancement in bioprocess and pharmaceutical manufacturing.”
Beyond efficiency, sustainability is becoming a defining factor in technology adoption.
“… What’s really leading our growth is our continuous chromatography … specifically MCSGP (multicolumn countercurrent solvent gradient purification) with AutoPeak® technology. … It is really a differentiated technology that allows our customers to increase their purification capacity and yields – reducing QC time and also reducing their solvent usage. So it’s become the accepted state-of-the-art technology that has really come to the forefront of the industry.”
For YMC America, innovation isn’t about novelty. It’s about enabling customers to be successful, and with greater confidence.
Culture, People, and Purpose
Ask Mark what makes execution possible, and he doesn’t hesitate: People Come First.
“My job is to make sure that our people have the necessary tools and resources to be successful and to help them grow. By keeping that small-company entrepreneurial spirit … we can focus on innovation.”
That philosophy shows up in how the company recognizes contributions across teams. YMC America’s Groundbreaking Ceremony captured the spirit of a culture built on talent, trust, and genuine appreciation for its people.
“We’ve been successful because of our people. So, it wasn’t a traditional groundbreaking where the leadership team picked up a shovel. We had our employees do that. We had representatives from the different parts of the business … that come together to make YMC what we are.”
That focus on people extends beyond strategy and into the day-to-day experience of the workplace as the YMC America expansion takes shape.
“We will be making investments in common space – additional conference rooms for teams to be able to get together and collaborate, … an updated, larger cafeteria space … to make it a place where people feel they can do their personal best when they’re here at work.”
A Long-Term View: The Quantum Leap to 2034
Looking ahead, YMC America’s roadmap is ambitious, and it is already underway.
“With a ten-year plan we call the Quantum Leap to 2034, we’re actually living it right now. It starts with expansion – adding increased capabilities and capacity.”
But growth isn’t just about scale.
“It’s also about understanding the way our customers are going to continue to innovate and how we can support that innovation, whether it’s through personalized medicine or the use of separation and chromatography technology for other things that we think will play an important role in everyday life.”
Leadership and Final Thoughts
Mark’s leadership philosophy is grounded in realism, persistence, and trust in people.
“Be patient and be persistent. You don’t have to be perfect. Sometimes the pursuit of perfection slows progress. We’re going to make mistakes, but we’re going to continue to execute our vision and correct as necessary. We’re in it for the long term. If you have the right people and the right culture, it makes everything possible.”
As YMC America continues its journey, this blog will share the stories, insights, and innovations shaping the future of bioprocessing – one milestone at a time.
