Technical Sales Manager – Central Region

Summary
YMC America is seeking a driven and technically strong Technical Sales Manager to grow chromatography business within the Central U.S. region. This role is responsible for driving incremental sales of analytical and preparative LC columns, bulk chromatography media, and YMC Japan–manufactured preparative purification equipment (including K‑Prep systems and DAC columns).
The ideal candidate combines deep chromatography knowledge with a consultative sales approach to support biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic customers across process development, scale‑up, and GMP manufacturing.
Responsibilities
Sales & Territory Development
- Identify, qualify, and develop prospective accounts; maintain opportunity pipeline using CRM.
- Travel throughout the assigned Central U.S. region (MI, IN, KY, TN, IL, WI, MO, IA, NE, KS, CO) to engage customers, uncover needs, and secure new business.
- Promote YMC’s full suite of products through presentations, product demos, technical discussions, and educational tools (samples, webinars, literature, etc.).
- Prepare and deliver quotes for analytical/prep columns, bulk media, and purification equipment with support from Customer Service and Estimation teams.
- Meet or exceed annual sales targets while enhancing customer satisfaction and retention.
Customer & Market Engagement
- Maintain strong relationships with scientists, engineers, procurement teams, and leadership across the chromatographic workflow.
- Act as the technical liaison between customers and internal teams (Applications, Operations, Quality, Customer Service).
- Provide timely follow‑up on inquiries related to pricing, lead times, quality concerns, or product performance.
- Attend key trade shows, conferences, and webinars to represent YMC and stay current with market trends.
Reporting & Internal Collaboration
- Submit sales activity reports, forecasts, and competitive intelligence.
- Provide meaningful customer feedback for continuous improvement via the Quality Management System.
- Enter new customer information and update existing accounts in CRM systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM platforms
- Willing to travel up to 30%, including some overnight travel
Required Experience and Knowledge
- 5+ years of direct sales or product management experience focused on chromatography products
- Proven understanding of chromatography workflow, customer needs, and competitive landscape
- Strong communication skills—capable of explaining technical concepts and influencing scientific decision‑makers
- Self‑directed, organized, and capable of managing a diverse territory
Preferred Skill and Experience
- MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related scientific field
- 10+ years of technical sales experience in chromatographic separations, especially preparative, pilot, or process‑scale purifications
- Working knowledge of purification workflows, column packing, resin selection, and analytical method requirements
