High-Performance Columns for Polar Compound Separations

Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography (HILIC) is a powerful separation mode specifically designed for polar organic compounds that show poor retention in reversed-phase systems.

In conventional reversed-phase HPLC, highly polar compounds often elute near the solvent front or co-elute with matrix components, resulting in poor resolution and ion suppression during MS detection.

HILIC solves this challenge by using a polar stationary phase and a mobile phase rich in organic solvent (typically acetonitrile). A thin, water-enriched layer forms on the silica surface, promoting partitioning and hydrogen-bond interactions that enhance the retention and selectivity of polar analytes.

YMC’s HILIC columns provide exceptional reproducibility, mechanical stability, and compatibility with LC-MS, UHPLC, and high-throughput workflows, which make them ideal for pharmaceuticals, metabolites, and bioanalytical compounds.
