Summary
The Polisher is responsible for performing finishing and fabrication work on custom metal components, assemblies, and packaged systems. This role supports the Master Metal Finisher position by ensuring that system frames, hangers, and assemblies meet specified cosmetic and functional requirements. The Polisher applies a range of polishing and surface preparation techniques while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and ensuring that system frames (skids) and hangers meet quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform polishing, grinding, sanding, buffing, and blending stainless steel and other metals to achieve specified finishes
- Assist with preparation and finishing tasks for custom packaged systems, including:
- Cutting, grinding, and preparing frame stock and hangers
- Weld cleanup and finishing, from rough grind through to final polish
- In-place polishing of hangers and supports on skid frames
- Work closely with Master Metal Finisher, fabricators, and engineers to support finishing requirements
- Operate polishing and finishing equipment safely and maintain tools in good working order
- Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety procedures
- Support continuous improvement efforts in polishing and finishing processes
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and finish specifications to achieve required surface quality
- Inspect completed work for accuracy, quality, and compliance with cosmetic and dimensional requirements
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by continually attending training classes as required
- Ensure customer satisfaction regarding quality and timely service
- Performs other duties as assigned by Shop Manager
Qualifications
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform repetitive polishing and grinding tasks
- Prolonged standing, kneeling, and crouching
- Prolonged manual, electric, and pneumatic tool use
- Use of appropriate PPE (gloves, respirator, eye/ear protection, etc.) as required
Required Experience and Knowledge
- High school diploma or GED
- 2-5 years of experience in metal finishing, preferably with stainless steel
- Strong understanding of polishing techniques, tools, and equipment
- Ability to follow technical instructions and specifications
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and develop advanced finishing skills under guidance of senior finishers
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- Ability to consistently achieve precise, high-quality surface finishes
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Familiar with ASME-BPE standards and implementation
