Summary

Promotes and sells YMC liquid chromatography products to biotech, pharma, and academic accounts in the Western U.S. territories, as defined each year in sales plan. YMC products include UHPLC, HPLC, and preparative prepacked columns, bulk media for preparative purification, and Japanese prep purification equipment (K-Prep systems and DAC columns).  May support sales of bench-scale to process-scale systems (Contichrom CUBE and U.S.-manufactured systems).

Responsibilities

  • Compiles and maintains list of prospective customers and opportunities, tracking status of sales leads.
  • Travels throughout assigned territory to call on existing and prospective customers to secure orders.
  • Territory includes those states in the Western U.S. region
    • WA, MT, OR, ID, CA, NV, UT, AZ, NM, & TX
  • Regularly communicates with customers and prospects by phone and email.
  • Displays or promotes products utilizing all available sales tools (samples, papers, webinars, presentations, literature, product demos, etc.)
  • Obtains pricing and delivery estimates from Customer Service as needed and is responsible for sending these to customers for equipment, bulk resin, and columns.
  • Prepare sales activity reports as required.
  • Analyzes market and competition; identifies external threats and opportunities; adapts strategy to changing conditions.
  • Enter new customer data and information for current customers into CRM database.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with appropriate customer and vendor contacts.
  • Manages a variety of customer requests promptly and professionally (deliveries, pricing, quality) utilizing appropriate internal resources.
  • Responds to requests for quotations through Estimation & Customer Service Groups.
  • Submits significant customer feedback into quality system per company SOPs.
  • Attend trade shows/webinars/conferences when required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related discipline.

  • Supports organization’s goals and values: Reflects the core alignment required for any candidate.

Required Experience and Knowledge

  • 5+ years direct sales / product management focused on chromatography products.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of market and competition.

  • Deep technical knowledge: General knowledge of customers’ purification processes and analytical requirements.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%, including some overnight travel.

  • Self-directed / Objective directed: Core operational competencies for the role.

Preferred Skill and Experience

  • 10+ years direct sales / product management focused on liquid chromatography separations of pharmaceuticals/biopharmaceuticals, including process scale purifications.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and colleagues.

  • Ability to prepare professional correspondence: While often required, these communication “soft skills” usually distinguish top-tier candidates in a sales/management context.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM experience.
