Understanding Our YMC Supercritical Fluid Chromatography Products
Here at YMC America, Inc., we supply a vast array of chromatography columns. Therefore, when a lab needs to buy silica columns, including columns for Supercritical Fluid Chromatography (SFC), they come to us.
SFC is known as a “green” chemistry due to its use of supercritical carbon dioxide (CO2) as the main component of its mobile phase, which means that only small amounts of organic solvents (methanol, acetonitrile, isopropanol, etc.) are required as organic modifiers. The primary waste product (CO2) simply outgasses into the atmosphere and is not a pollutant. The low viscosity of supercritical carbon dioxide permits separations that are three times as fast (oftentimes faster) when compared to normal phase HPLC.
YMC supercritical fluid chromatography columns are suitable for both chiral and achiral separations. They are available in a multitude of HPLC column geometries, stationary phases which are based on both silica and hybrid silica, as well as coated or immobilized (chiral phases). These columns are packed in SFC-compatible hardware while also tested under SFC conditions to ensure performance.
We offer three main types of SFC columns; each of which consists of a unique lineup of columns:
1. YMC Alcyon Achiral SFC columns
- Base: Organic / inorganic hybrid silica
- Alcyon SFC Triart C18
- Alcyon SFC Triart Diol
- Alcyon SFC Triart PFP
- Alcyon SFC Triart SIL
- Base: Silica gel
- Alcyon SFC CN
- Alcyon SFC SIL
- Alcyon SFC PVA-Sil
2. YMC Alcyon Chiral SFC columns
- Coated Type
- Alcyon SFC CSP Amylose-C
- Alcyon SFC CSP Cellulose-C
- Immobilized Type
- Alcyon SFC CSP Amylose-SA
- Alcyon SFC CSP Cellulose-SB
- Alcyon SFC CSP Cellulose-SC
3. Additional Types of Achiral SFC columns (non-Alcyon)
We provide 9 different phases for SFC separations, which gives scientists a wide range of choices for selectivity when it comes to SFC achiral separations.
- Analytical and prep scale
- Five micron packings
- YMC’s hallmark attention to particle and chemistry specifications
